I know from direct experience that pheromone products work and work well. However, I doubt Jelique is a legitimate product. My first clue is they list the ingredients as "pheromones" rather than the specific pheromones they are using.

If you are looking for a pheromone product to try, you can avoid being scammed by phony products by sticking to those sold through Love Scent (which sells most legitimate pheromone products) and Androtics Direct, (which makes its own stuff).

There's probably some semi-silly answers, some arm-chair psychology, and a few precious chunks of science here...

Do they work?

a) Certainly, if "women" can be losely translated to female... insect.

b) In terms of humans, the evidence is alot less solid than say a "source" of these compounds might have you believe. "Drive Women Wild... only $xxx ! Act now, a get a bonus set of knives!"

c) Confidence goes a long way (we're talking psychology here, not one of the relatively easily quantifiable physical sciences). If you slap on some magic potion that will believe will make you attractive... well, then you start acting like it. Whenever you face "normal" rejection, you just blow it off (her vomeronasal organ must be blocked...) and whenever you are "successful", it increases your confidence, etc. A suppose it would be inappropriate now to point out the many children's tales that have this same theme....

The science...

People perceive pheromones differently from other animals. Humans aren't capable of consciously detecting pheromonal scents, so there's no noticeable smell to them (and isn't this convenient for retailers). Although the VNO was long considered absent in humans, recent research shows that it does exist, and that it is capable of detecting pheromonal signals. The degree to which the human body responds to these signals, however, is still in question. It has been demonstrated that stimulation of the VNO can cause a release of sex hormones known as gonadotropins, which may or may not affect mood or behavior.

A 1998 study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior by Winnifred B. Cutler, et al., looked at how synthesized human male pheromones "designed to improve romance" affected the sociosexual behaviors of 38 heterosexual men. The positive result as to be balanced against the very small sample size (hey that's a statistics term, not some snide comment on the experimental subjects).

It's not strictly about attracting women, but ... timing is everything.

Human pheromone research still holds important potential for people in other areas of study, such as in easing depression or stress and fertility control. A 1998 study published in Nature by Martha McClintock and Kathleen Stern looked at how pheromones affect menstrual cycles. Twenty women were exposed to pheromones collected before and after ovulation. Many of the women experienced shortened cycles with the pre-ovulation pheromones and longer ones with the post-ovulation pheromones.
